For men, the summer wardrobe is a hard thing to get right. The balance between keeping cool on the inside and out is like walking a tightrope where the slightest breeze is likely to throw you off balance.

Yet despite the difficulties, the integral components of a successful summer wardrobe remain the same: eye-catching, well-ventilated attire and a pair of awesome sunnies.

So with that thought in mind, we invited Adam from TheMaleStylist.com to share his thoughts on fashion and assembling the perfect seasonal outfit.

Thanks for agreeing to today’s interview! Can you tell our readers a little bit about yourself and your blog The Male Stylist?

I'm a fashion and grooming enthusiast, originally from Liverpool but I've been living in London for the past 5 years and now work in digital and fashion advertising.

The Male Stylist is essentially a platform to help men of all ages discover and enhance their personal style through grooming advice, product reviews and outfit inspiration. Over the past two years it's grown from strength to strength, though I would never have dared to imagine that it would become as big as it has already.

How did you get into blogging, and into fashion in general?

I've always been very aware of how I present myself and I think that naturally led to me being interested in fashion. The blog was an extension of this passion as a way of sharing my experiences, talking about individuals who inspire my style and generally helping to connect people of a similar mindset.

How would you describe your fashion ‘look’?

I've always defined my style as that of an ‘aspiring gentleman’. I try to create modern twists on classic outfits from earlier eras (like the 1950s/60s) with a lot of focus going into tailoring and smarter casual looks.

Do you have a favourite summer outfit?

I have a few, though my favourite is a combination of navy polo shirt and chinos, with a light tan belt and boat shoes. It's a great outfit inspired by that classic Italian/Mediterranean style that you often see walking through somewhere like Milan. It's also very versatile and works equally well for both evening dinner parties as well as afternoons wandering through town.

And when it comes to sunglasses, do you have a signature style or is it more a case of matching the style to that day’s outfit?

I have a few pairs that I tend to match with different outfits depending on the accessories I wear (watch, belt, shoes) as well as the overall colour of the outfit. In general, I tend to favour more traditional styles such as Wayfarers, Clubmasters etc.

What do you look for in a pair of good sunglasses?

I think comfort is the probably the main factor, once I've found a style I like. You don't want anything that's going to rub or feel heavy when being worn all day. I also like a good splash of colour – whether it's tortoise, navy or brown – as this really helps you stand out from the crowd.

What are your favourite menswear trends for Spring/Summer 2016?

I feel like the industry is moving towards slightly smarter looks with many high street retailers placing a great deal of investment into tailoring. Considering the styles that I like and the outfits I tend to wear, this is right up my street and I think a welcome return to smart summer styling.
