Ghost costume wearing sunglasses - Halloween Costumes wearing glasses

Halloween is the perfect excuse for us to act like kids and dress up again. Or, have to dress up for the kid's sake. Either or, for glasses wearers like me, it can be a little annoying. I'm not a huge fan of wearing contact lenses personally, so my costume includes my glasses. Sometimes that's great as that character is meant to have glasses. Other times, it looks very weird.

Now, I’m not an advocate of going blind, as it can result in all kinds of bad endings – like falling down steps and kissing frogs. Therefore to help you look amazing while being able to see at the same time, here are ten awesome Halloween costumes with glasses.

  1. Clark Kent

This one is an obvious go-to for many glasses wearers. It is simple and easy. Many of us own a suit and can gel up our hair to match the slick look of Clark Kent.

Our top tip is to grab a superman top and wear it underneath your shirt. You know the ones, those crew neck blue ones you can pick up cheap. It adds a little more dimension to an easy costume and adds a little fun. Because who doesn't like going around ripping open a shirt and showing off the Superman logo? Just me? ok...

Best glasses - Think black-rimmed rectangle glasses.

  1. Harry Potter

We have another crowd-pleaser which is super easy. This is one that is instantly recognisable, and if you have something that resembles a school uniform you are halfway there! Gryffindor scarfs and a wand are easy to pick up and cheap too at this time of year. It really is down to drawing that scar on properly!

Our top tip is that this is great for a whole host of ages and genders. Or getting together in a group and having a bunch of characters together!

Best glasses - Thin rimmed round glasses.

  1. Velma

When it comes to Halloween costumes with glasses there was one women's costume that sprung to mind. Velma from Scooby-Doo! This is iconic and many people may already have a bright orange jumper in their wardrobe.

Our top tip with this costume is not to lose your glasses. In my warped memory, Velma seems to lose hers every episode, often finding them broken. That's expensive and not what we're looking for here.

Best Glasses - Thick Rimmed Square Glasses

  1. Dwight Schrute

This one is a cult favourite. Honestly, if anyone came to trick or treat like this, I would give them all the sweets and chocolates I have by the door. It's pretty easy too, if you have a suit and a dull coloured shirt, you've smashed it. A trip to a charity shop will be a good shout if you don't quite have the right outdated suit to match.

Our top tip with this costume is to set a stapler in Jelly and carry it around and quote Dwight all the time.

Best Glasses - We have a pair of Polaroid Glasses that match Dwights! Or, any double bridged rectangular glasses.

  1. Where's Wally?

If you're going DIY or want to purchase one of the many costumes of Wally, your glasses will fit in perfectly with this costume. Plus, you can have a good game of Where's Wally with friends or family.

Our top tip with this costume is to fully embrace the reoccurring joke you'll. You will constantly be asked where you are, and people will pretend they cannot see you. Be ready for that, and understand that joke will never be funny to anyone but the person saying it.

Best Glasses - Round glasses.

  1. Barbra Holland

Barb from Stranger Things is perfect if you're a little last minute on a costume. Or, just one of those people who hate fancy dress. This is a really easy costume that feels somewhat normal. Plus, it feels more Halloween-ey because the character is from Stranger Things, as opposed to a superhero.

Our top tip with this costume is to be ready for people not knowing who you are and explaining who you are.

Best Glasses - Retro Glasses.

  1. Meg Griffin

Instantly recognisable and easy to pull off. The hardest part might be finding the right coloured hat, to be honest. But layering a pink and white t-shirt will help you keep warm, and you don't have to feel too dressed up for the occasion either! You might have all you need already in your wardrobe.

Our top tip with this costume is to be prepared for everyone to tell you to "Shut up Meg".

Best Glasses - Oversized Round Glasses

  1. Austin Powers

Groovy Baby! It's time to have some fun with this one. Getting a premade costume is pretty easy. But think of the fun you would have making that cravat! Although, a crushed velvet suit might be hard to come by cheap.

Our top tip with this costume is to keep your hands to yourself and choose your quotes wisely depending on who is in the room.

Best Glasses - Wayfarer Style Glasses

  1. Jess Day

Here's another easy one! The lead character from New Girl is easily replicated with a dress or a skirt. Yet, we think there is a huge potential to get creative and make this less boring. Instead of just looking like Jess, try creating the photo frame from the opening credits (until they changed it halfway through the seasons).

Our top tip with this costume is to answer anyone who asks "who are you meant to be" with "Its Jess!".

Best Glasses - Round Glasses

  1. Molotov Girl

From the 2021 film, Free Guy, Molotov Girl is a great costume. Those in the film that are “sunglasses guys” are real people playing the game. Molotov Girl is one of those. Yet her sunglasses are more like glasses.

Our top tip is to add a blue light lens. These glasses have a blue flash to them in some scenes, which you could replicate by adding a blue light lens. So, they’re not just for Halloween, but also for sitting in front of screens too!

Best Glasses - Ray-Ban Aviator Glasses

  1. Edna Mode

It is hard to find someone who hates The Incredibles. One character that stole our hearts back in 2004, and again in 2018 was Edna Mode. Her look is so distinctive and a great one to replicate. Getting a dark black bob wig and large round glasses will be enough distinction, you can be a lot more “DIY” on the rest of the costume.

Our top tip is to shout at those dressed as superheroes “No Capes!”

Best Glasses - Oversized round glasses

  1. Mrs Doubtfire

One of Robin William’s iconic roles is perfect for a Halloween costume. What we love the most is that is perfect for men and women to recreate! Plus, there are so many iconic scenes you can recreate. A few burn marks around the chest is perfect for the kitchen scene, or lather on a face mask and try to keep that on all night!

Our top tip is to raid a charity shop and try not to set yourself on fire and dance to Aerosmith.

Best Glasses - Vintage oversized glasses. Butterfly shape glasses are better!

  1. Walter White

From one of the biggest tv shows in recent history, Walter White is a loved character to dress up as! His glasses are really distinctive within his look. Grab yourself a brimmed hat or yellow hazmat suit and you’re almost there.

Our top tip is to make sure that Goatee is immaculate (or very well drawn on).

Best Glasses - Thin frames rectangular glasses.

  1. Elphaba

One for the Musical Theatre lovers! Elphaba is the lead character in the much loved musical Wicked. A prequel to the Wizard of Oz! Getting yourself all greened up and finding a lovely navy skirt suit will probably be a little time-consuming. However, for the right person, this is an amazing costume! As a little fact, Elphaba is a name created from the initials of the writer of the Wonderful Wizard of Oz series of novels, L. Frank Baum.

Our top tip is to learn all the lyrics to Defying Gravity.

Best Glasses - Thin framed oval glasses.

  1. Colonel Sanders

The Colonel will be a great choice for many people and ages. Donning a white hair spray die, a walking stick and a white suit you’ll find it tough to keep clean, you’ll be iconic and easily recognisable. All while being able to see through your glasses. Perfect!

Our top tip is to bring a bargain bucket as snacks. You don’t know how good the food is going to be, plus it adds to the costume. But more importantly, snacks.

Best Glasses - Thick black-framed glasses.

  1. Egon Spengler

Not one of the most recognisable names, but 100% a recognisable character. Egon Spengler is one of the Ghostbusters. The tall one with glasses, remember him? Sure, maybe it isn’t Bill Murray, but Harold Ramis’ beloved character is an amazing choice if you need a group fancy dress idea where you can still wear your glasses.

Our top tip is to protect others from Ghouls, Ghosts and Puft Marshmallow Men.
